Kailash C. Agarwal, Ph.D.

Dr. Agarwal is the founder of Botanics Integrated. His extensive research experience in the field of botanical actives and medicines assists in introducing research-based novel botanical actives and biochemically standardized extracts to this fast-growing industry.

Prior to Botanics Integrated, Dr. Agarwal was a faculty member of the Department of Physiology, Pharmacology, and Biotechnology at Brown University (Providence, RI), and retired as a Professor Emeritus of Medical Science (Research) in 2002.

During his 34 years at Brown University, he extensively studied the biochemical aspects of drug discovery, both from botanicals and conventional small chemical entities. His work on purines in the field of cardiovascular diseases is internationally recognized. He was responsible for discovering novel mechanisms of action of botanicals, including:

  • Garlic (Allium Sativum)
  • Forskolin (Coleus Forskohlii)
  • Black tree fungus (Auricularia Auricula)
  • Arjuna (Terminalia Aarjuna) 
He has co-directed a clinical study on “Effects of aged garlic in hypercholesterolemia patients” at the Memorial Hospital (Providence, RI), an affiliated hospital of Brown University.

Worldwide Recognitions:
Dr. Agarwal has published over 140 publications, which include 14 invited book chapters and papers presented at national and international scientific conferences. He has given dozens of lectures worldwide in his field of research. He received numerous awards, including:
  • The United Nations Transfer of Technology Award
  • Emeriti Award for outstanding medical education from Brown University Medical School
  • The American Heart Association Research Award ​
He has served as a president of research-based consulting company, Drug Development Inc. (Providence, RI) for 7 years and as scientific advisor to two natural products companies for the development of herbal products for use in psoriasis, aging and cosmetics.
